Mavreeso campground is a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors; go on hikes, bike rides and more. The area is full of shady tent areas and pull-thrus for RVs. Campsites have picnic tables that accommodate wheelchairs. Most of the campsites are level and close to the Dolores River. Parking is available for fisherman. There are several parcels of private property along the river, please stay on the trail and do not trespass. Elevation 7,600 ft.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
The western portion of San Juan Public Lands has many aspen-covered
mountainsides that turn gold in fall, and the high peaks of the Lizard
Head Wilderness grace Lizard Head Pass. Colorado Highway 145
(San Juan Skyway) and West Dolores Road (Forest Rd. 535) are popular
drives in autumn.
The Dolores and West Dolores Rivers are popular for fishing in these
areas. The site of Colorado’s last Indian battle, the Beaver Creek Massacre,
is a mile off Forest Rd. 526 on Forest Rd. 525. Remains of the
Narraguinnep Fort are off Forest Rd. 514. McPhee Park, on Forest Rd.
526, has a virgin stand of old-growth ponderosa pines.

Mavreeso is on the West Dolores Road (Forest Rd. 535), which
branches north from Colorado Highway 145 about 13 miles northeast
of Dolores. The road follows the West Dolores River almost to its headwaters
in the Lizard Head Wilderness. After 32 miles, it rejoins the
highway 6 miles north of Rico. The road has a gravel surface, but the
last 6 miles are steep, narrow, and not recommended for trailers.
